The German artist Katharina Ludwig was born 1997 in Munich. She completed her training as a contemporary dancer and dance pedagogue at the Iwanson School of Contemporary Dance in Munich in 2018. In 2024 she obtained her master's degree in Movement Research with her master's thesis on feminist dance practices at the Anton Bruckner University Linz.
As a choreographer, Katharina has created several short pieces that have been shown and awarded internationally since 2018. Her most recent works include the solo „NUMBER 52“, originally created as a 15 min version for the Inkubator 2025 at Fabriktheater Zurich, which has been awarded in the category „Best Performer“ by the SoloDuo Competition by BarnesCrossing Cologne in May 2025. While becoming a full evening piece in coproduction with TANZhAUS Bern in September 2026, this solo production has also been selected to tour with the national tour of Tanzfest / Fête de la Danse through Switzerland in May 2026. It was also chosen to be shown at the Hecht Jetzt Try-Out Festival at Theater im Hechtplatz Zürich in June 2026 and has been added to the Distribution Desk of Reso. In March 2026 she premiered the duo „DOUBLE STANDARDS“ with the Lausanne-based dancer Vanessa Wüthrich during the BETA Stage Festival in Bern. In the summer of 2025 she was selected to research and deepen her choreographic work in the ATLAS program at Impulstanz Vienna. In October 2025 she created the short piece „I LIKE IT LIKE…“ for the international Flyout Dance Company by VIVO Center in Rome, which premiered in December 2025 at Teatro Greco. In 2019 Katharina was selected for the trinational project Artil in Ukraine, Poland and Austria and created a piece for 5 dancers.
As a dancer and performer, Katharina has worked in many multidisciplinary productions spanning dance, music, clowning and acting work. She worked in collaborations with Joshua Monten, Wim Vandekeybus, Rotes Velo Company, Simone Elliot, Emese Nagy, Sade Mamedova, Emi Miyoshi/SHIBUI Kollektiv, Nunzio Impellizeri and Karolin Stächele/DAGADA Dance Company, among others. Her engagements brought her to perform and work all over the world. From Amsterdam to London to Johannesburg and the Sydney Opera House.
As a dance pedagogue, Katharina has already taught the training for professional dancers at Tanzhaus Zürich, Tanzbüro Basel, TANZhAUS Bern and Tanznetz Freiburg as well as regular hobby and vocational classes. Katharina is an honorary board member of the BETA Association of Bernese Dance Professionals supporting the independent dance scene.
